Many of the Physical Therapists who perform EMG/NCS are board certified as Electrophysiologic Clinical Specialists (ECS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Board certification requires documented levels of experience and training in a diverse range of medical conditions. Some of the areas in which the applicant must demonstrate proficiency include: anatomy, neuroscience, physiology, clinical sciences, critical inquiry, clinical conditions, examination and evaluation. Applicants must sit for and pass a rigorous examination administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).
